Septembers Gemstone

Occasionally found in white or yellow, most sapphires appear in various shades of blue, from pale to dark.
The colour reminds us of the sapphire’s strong connection to water and its astrological ties to the zodiac sign of Libra.

Connected to the throat Chakra, this gemstone is related to helping with disorders of the respiratory system and breathing issues.

Sapphires are used for rituals involving prophecy and spirit guides. Some believe that sapphire can be used as a
defense mechanism against dark magic & hostile psychic attacks.

Sapphire is also associated with love and fidelity. Used to help maintain a loyal relationship in your love life.

However....... if the person you are involved with betrays you, get rid of any sapphires they may have given you as a gift to help rid any negative energy of their betrayal that might linger around.

Mabon
Autumn Equinox - September 21st
A day when light and darkness are of equal length again. The autumn equinox foreshadows the darker days to come. Mabon is the harvest of the fruits of the Earth Mother and your labour, giving thanks to abundance.

Like seeds germinating into the darkness of the rich Earth over the next six months, we also continue to grow by preparing ourselves for the stillness of the darkness, reaching into the deep places of regeneration within, and bringing back the treasures of creativity and spiritual knowledge.

As Yule is the year’s midnight, Mabon is the sunset and from this dusk, we carry what we can of the light with us into the darkness.

A great Mabon ritual is to slice open apples to reveal the mystery within - a five-pointed star symbolises all elements of life combined. We eat the apples to remind us, as witches, we walk between worlds, the norm and the magical other world.

Another ritual is to spend some time preparing your environment for the cold weather that is to come. Use September to clear out clutter - both physical and emotional before the winter

Use yellow candles and burn patchouli incense.

Altar decorations may include acorns, apples, autumn leaves, pine cones or a statue of the Triple Goddess in her mother form.

Spellworkings at Mabon include protection, security, self-confidence, harmony and Balance.

Citrine & Topaz

Citrine

Citrine crystals are usually yellow, yellow-brown, orange, dark orange-brown, and reddish brown in colour. They are easily one of the most popular quartzes in the world.

Why Would You Use Citrine Crystal?
Citrine crystal will be extremely valuable to you because it’s not only a spiritual cleanser (just like Selenite), it can also regenerate your spiritual self. Every day, your spirit gets exposed to external energies that are both harmful and good for the spirit.

When there’s too much negative energy in your spirit, you will feel like your balance is off. It’s because the spirit can also get bogged down with negative and toxic energies. Citrine is the perfect tool to cleanse and rejuvenate your spirit and carry with them virtues of self-improvement.

They are excellent stones for self-healing - The energies of Citrine crystals will give you inspiration and increase your energy and drive. They will help you pick up the broken pieces and start fresh - Therefore, if you want to feel sunny and cheery again, you should never leave without your Citrine crystals with you.

Topaz

it's believed the name Topaz is derived from the Greek word Topazion, which may have originated from the Sanskrit term meaning fire - Tapas It may also have come from the Egyptian island of Topazos in the Red Sea. The Ancients used the name of the island for the yellow-green crystals found there.  Most Topaz crystals are colourless, but the most abundant color is green and blue.

Topaz crystals that are honey yellow, blue, pink, or clear are highly valued. Imperial Topaz is the most sought-after, and hence the most expensive.

Why Would You Use Topaz?
This crystal radiates gentle power that soothes, stimulates, heals, and recharges. It will bring you lasting solid energy that will fill your life with abundance, peace, and joy.
It will stimulate your self-confidence and your ability to learn new things.

Topaz will inspire creativity and increase your attention span. It will help you achieve perfection and your desired results when it comes to your projects and endeavors.

It’s also a wonderful talisman that will help you discern divine wisdom and connect it to the spiritual realm.

It’s a natural magnifier of your psychic abilities, helping you to attune to your inner powers for guidance, as well as those who want to serve through spiritual healing or reading.

Topaz will amplify whatever energy is focused through it - it’s important to be responsible and conscious about its use.

Topaz heals, soothes, and energizes Use Topaz if you wish to make a much-needed change in your life and find your own path!

Samhain
The Celtic Roots of Halloween
Wednesday 31st October
Samhain
As October turns to November, thousands of Witches, Wiccans, Druids, and Pagans across the world observe the sacred time of Samhain.

Samhain is a festival of the Dead. Meaning "Summer's End" (pronounced saah-win or saa-ween.) Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest and the start of the coldest half of the year. For many, Samhain is also the beginning of the spiritual new year.

Originating in ancient Europe as a Celtic Fire festival, Samhain is now celebrated worldwide. The timing of Samhain celebrations varies according to spiritual tradition and geography.

Many celebrate Samhain over the course of several days and nights. In the northern hemisphere, many Pagans celebrate Samhain from sundown on the 31st of October to the 1st of November. Others hold Samhain celebrations on the nearest weekend or on the Full or New Moon closest to this time. Some Pagans observe Samhain later, or near the 6th of November, to coincide with the astronomical midpoint between Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice.

With the growth of Christianity as the dominant religion throughout Europe, Samhain took on Christian names and guises. All Saints' Day or All Hallows on the 1st of November commemorated Christian saints and martyrs. All Souls' Day on the 2nd of November was a remembrance for the souls of the dead.

Most importantly, it’s a time to both reflect on your life over the past year and realise how much you have grown, what you’ve accomplished, the challenges you have overcome and what you can achieve in the future.

There are many ways to celebrate Samhain- for example - kindle flames in a cauldron, write down a habit that you wish to end and cast it into the Samhain flames. Imagine yourself adopting a new, healthier way of being as you move around the fire clockwise.

We wish you all a safe and prosperous Samhain

Turquoise, Zircon &Tanzanite
December Gemstones

People who are born in December have much to celebrate because they get the pleasure of having three birthstones: Turquoise, Zircon, and Tanzanite.

Turquoise
A stunning blue-green gemstone - and one of the oldest stones known to be used for charms and talismans since ancient times.

Sensitivity, strength, protection from evil, and a connection to the spiritual realm are all attributed to Turquoise. It’s also a symbol of good luck, good fortune, and peace.

The name Turquoise is taken from the French ‘Turqueise’, meaning ‘Turkish stone’.

It’s believed to have been first brought to Europe from Turkestan or the Sinai Peninsula, at the time a Turkish domain.

Turquoise is associated with good fortune, happiness, and success; open communication and protection from disease; strength and regeneration.

Zircon
The second December birthstone is a symbol of dignity, integrity, and purity.

The natural colour of Zircon varies between colorless, yellow-golden, red, brown, blue and green.  Colourless stones of gem quality are a popular substitute for diamonds and are also known as "Matura diamond".

It provides protection to the wearer against negative energies, illness, and evil. It’s believed to encourage a warm response wherever the wearer of Zircon goes.

It’s known to have powerful healing properties and has long been used for a peaceful night’s sleep. The stone also brings wisdom and respect to the wearer.

According to Hebrew legend, a holy messenger was sent to the Garden of Eden, tasked with watching over Adam and Eve.

The messenger was an angel called Zircon. Hence the stone has come to be associated with chastity, honor, loyalty, and purity.

Tanzanite
The third Birthstone for December is the spectacular Tanzanite.

Ancient peoples believed Tanzanite provided its wearer with an exceptional pathway to the spiritual realm. Unlocking chakras from the heart and bringing pleasant dreams to the wearer.

According to legend, cattle herders first saw Tanzanite after a fire caused by lightning destroyed extensive woodlands in Tanzania.

They realized that the dark brown stones had changed color into a splendid blue-purple, convincing them that Tanzanite was from the heavens and transported to Earth by a bolt of lightning. It’s true that Tanzanite does, under a strong light appear blue, but under softer light, pinks and red are also visible making the stone appear more of a violet.

The name Tanzanite was created by the world famous jewellers Tiffany and Co. as ‘Tanzanite’ can only be found in Tanzania.

This wonderful stone drives the wearer to achieve greatness, to realise their dreams, heighten their imagination and increase their creative energy.

Winter Solstice
Friday 21st December
Winter Solstice

The Biggest Celebration of our year will soon be upon us!

This year the Winter Solstice will be celebrated on the 21st of December - marking the moment the sun shines at its most southern point, directly over the Tropic of Capricorn.

This turning point of the seasons has been celebrated for thousands of years, and many of the traditions now associated with Christmas originated in our winter solstice celebrations - including (yes!) the Christmas tree.

But how did it start? What’s the significance to us and how should we celebrate?

Our ancestors understood the significance of the changing of the seasons and the annual rotation and renewal of nature - the time when the dark days of short daylight hours gradually change to daily earlier sunrises and later sunsets.

Understandably this was seen as a time to celebrate!

To us, as it was to our ancestors, it’s a time of renewal, a reawakening of the sun, a fresh start, a new beginning.

Evergreens, such as Holly and Fir tree branches (hence we have tinsel) were used to decorate a home and the burning of a Yule log (a source of warmth and light) was essential - the log had to be a gift (Christmas presents) would burn through the night and then put out to smoulder for 12 days (the 12 days of Christmas)

As for the Christmas tree - yes, it was undeniably made popular by (German) Prince Albert the husband of Queen Victoria - However, Christmas trees have their roots in winter solstice celebrations.  Our ancestors would simply not have cut down a tree and placed it in their home as that would have been harming nature - But….. when Saint Boniface, found a group of pagans worshipping an oak tree in 8th Century Germany, he cut the tree down. - According to legend, a fir tree sprang up on the same spot and the pagans in the region returned the following year at the winter solstice to decorate the fir tree and continued to do so annually.

The Winter Solstice involves fires and candles to celebrate the return of the sun -  please do so safely - We at the Wonky Cauldron are sending to you all our heartfelt best wishes, enjoy the celebration of a new beginning and then have a Merry Christmas and a very happy New (calendar) Year celebration.

Worry Dolls
Wonky Worry Dolls

Worry dolls are incredible pieces of an age-old traditional Guatemalan legend. According to this legend, the doll worries about the problem instead of the person, allowing the person to sleep peacefully.

It’s believed that the origin of the Worry Dolls (Muñeca
quitapena in Guatemalan) started with a Mayan princess named Ixmucane. The princess was granted a special gift from the Sun God which would allow her to solve any problem a human may worry about.

Although there are many different types, worry dolls tend to be quite small - so they can be carried on the person or most importantly, fit easily under a pillow.

They’re made by hand using a base of wood or wire. The face is usually made of cotton
,, and the clothing can be made with wool or Aguayo, a traditional Guatemalan cloth.

In Guatemalan culture, these little figures were probably originally intended to help children sleep well, but today it’s also common for adults to use them.

They’re normally kept in boxes or cloth bags.

They usually come with the following instructions:
Concentrate on your concerns or problems when you go to bed.
Tell the doll what your worries are.
Place the doll under your pillow.
You need to caress the doll a few times so that your sorrows don’t hurt it, and in the morning, they’ll have disappeared!

Whilst Myth & Legend are one thing, the reality is, Worry Dolls do actually play a role in modern pediatrics and child psychiatry throughout South America and beyond.

January Gemstone
Garnet
January Gemstone - Garnet

Anyone born in the month of January is fortunate to have one of the brightest and certainly most colourful birthstones associated with their birth month - hence, their vibrant colourful personalities.

Garnets are respected as being one of the most ancient and indeed, most powerful talismans. They have been used as such for over 5,000 years.

Ancient Egyptians saw them as a symbol of life. They were revered for their healing properties as far back as the Bronze age, and remnants of Garnet jewelry have been found in Egyptian tombs dating back as far as 3100 BC.

Garnet jewelry remained popular for centuries - it was a very prestigious gift in 3rd and 4th century Rome.

The name ‘Garnet’ is derived from the word ‘granatum’ which meant ‘seed’. It was given this name as the stone often resembles the seed of a pomegranate.

The most popular Garnets are red, brown red or orange-red - however, they are found in other colours - the deep Emerald Green Garnet is the most valuable as it’s very rare.

Garnet is known as the stone of passionate devotion. This can be devotion to family or friends but predominantly a sense of purpose, and a passion for life.

It’s believed to stimulate the senses and increase physical vitality and stamina.

As a result, people born in January tend to be spontaneous and feisty, with a strong sense of loyalty and a big love of traveling and trying new things whenever possible.

Garnets are found in abundance in the USA, Myanmar, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Switzerland, Tanzania, and………….Scotland.

January 2019 Moon Phases
All About January
January Wolf Moon

January is the first month of the New Year according to the modern Gregorian and Julian calendars.

The name January comes from the Latin Ianuarius, after the Roman God Janus or more properly Ianus - the God of beginnings, endings, transitions, times, doorways, gateways, passageways, movement, and travelling.

He is always depicted as having two faces because he sees both the past and the future and is looking both at where you've been and where you're going.

He was ritually invoked by the priests at the beginning of each ceremony to communicate with all the other Gods as he reigns as the guardian of the gates between worlds and thus is the intermediary between mortals and the divine.

It is believed his name comes from the Latin word ire "to go" and from it was derived the word ianua "door" and the ceremonial archways of ancient Rome - they were called Jani (singular Janus) the most famous of these archways being the Janus Geminus whose doors were closed during peacetime and open during wartime.

A Saxon name for January is Wulf-monath (Wolf month) and hence the full moon of January is often referred to as the Wolf Moon (or the Cold Moon).

As would be expected, the beginning of the month was especially important to acknowledge the start of a New Year and thus new beginnings.

A Pagan ceremony which would have taken place shortly after the Winter Solstice to bless the land, was ‘borrowed’ and ‘moved’ by the Christian Faith (as many ceremonies are) and became ‘Plough Sunday’ - a  celebration of the beginning of the agricultural year that has seen somewhat of a revival over recent years.

It is traditionally held on the Sunday after Epiphany, i.e.the Sunday between 7 January and 13 January (So in 2019 it will be the 13th)  Accordingly, work in the fields did not begin until the day after Plough Sunday (Plough Monday).

As the name suggests part of a Plough would be taken into the village Church for a Blessing

Because the nature of farming has changed over the centuries, Plough Sunday is now seen as a way of generally celebrating farming and the work of farmers.

As well as a plough, it is common for local farmers to attend the service with their tractors - both new and old. Sometimes, services may be accompanied by other traditions such as Morris dancing. Historically, villagers would walk through their village collecting alms, before gathering at the church for the Blessing of the Plough.

Particularly notable Plough Sunday services are held at Sherborne Abbey in Dorset, Hedenham Church in Norfolk, and the cathedrals in Exeter and Chichester.

A seasonal message from the Wonky Warlock

Undressing or undecorating (there’s no such word as undecorating but it sounds and feels right) our homes after the Winter Solstice, can leave us feeling a bit empty, a little lost even, as nature’s rebirth is still a few moons away.

We need to use these cold dark days in a positive way.

Now is the time for reflection - and what better way, than to curl up with a hot drink in front of an open fire?

We know that under the frozen ground, Mother Earth is preparing to return - so we should be ready to greet her and the next cycle of life.

Concentrate on - write down even - highs and lows from your previous year……….don’t dwell on negatives - think about the good you have done and the things that you know in your heart you could have done better.

Focus on your inner strength, and channel all your thoughts on expanding your personal powers.

Set yourself realistic goals for the coming year - only you can make it happen.

The Wheel of the Seasons turns slowly, so use this time to regenerate, to invigorate, to cleanse yourself of negative vibes and prepare for the wonderful endless possibilities of this new year before us…….

A very Happy New Year to you all

And as always (and forever)

Blessed be

February Gemstone
Amethyst
Amethyst February Gemstone

A perfect Birthstone for the month of February!

Yes it’s a short month, and It’s safe to say that for most of us, February is cold and it’s dark - that’s the norm, and rarely does this month differ from our expectations!

Whilst natural Amethyst (which a type of quartz) can vary in colour from violet to red to lilac, they don’t tend to change dramatically when seen under a different light - this could account for why it’s associated with consistency,  stability, harmony, and peace.

According to legend, the Greek God of wine (Dionysos) became angry that man had abused his creation and frequently overindulged, resulting in their drunkenness…

And so it was, in a fit of rage, he descended from Mount Olympus, vowing that the first human he encountered would be turned to stone as clear and pure as water.

The first human he encountered was a beautiful woman, who in his anger he did indeed turn to a crystal clear stone… however, when he saw what he had done, he was horrified, and even though he was a God he felt such remorse he shed his tears (of wine) over the beautiful statue, his tears slowly transformed the clear stone to purple - he sought out the woman’s name and vowed she would live on for all eternity…her name was Amethyst

It was believed that all Amethyst stones originated from this statue, and the wearing of it would prevent you from getting drunk!

However, Amethyst doesn’t just help prevent you from getting a little merry!. It’s very much an emotional stimulant to bring out your inner creativity and enhance your imagination. By relieving your mind of the intoxicating effect of modern day stresses, it will allow your originality and ideas to be unleashed.

There are many benefits to featuring beautiful Amethysts in your home.

It’s very important to place stones in the areas that receive the most light - both sun and moonlight. This will create positive energies throughout your home, diminish negative vibrations and generate a harmonious, calm atmosphere.

Imbolc2019

Candlemas/Imbolc - 01-02 February

Wow! - it seems like yesterday we were looking forward to the Winter Solstice and yet here we are, ready to celebrate the Goddess Brigid........

Historically, there was a great annual festival (lots of food and drink!) to honour her.

She is a Goddess of poetry and healing; of fire; the sun, and undoubtedly most importantly to our forebears, she brought fertility to the land.

Over time she’s been known as Brigid, Brighid, Bride and Brigit, but her influence and indeed the reverence in which she was held by the people was so great that the Christian Church made her St Bridget.

The light from a candle is known as the flame of Brigid - so light your candles, focus your concentration and make wishes for you, your family and friends and enjoy Candlemas

The Celtic festival of Imbolc is a traditional honouring of Brigid and celebrates what is traditionally the start of the lambing season and therefore a sign of new life.

The original word was “Imbolg” meaning ‘in the belly’ - as in pregnant and expectant, symbolising the promise of hidden potential, renewal, of the earth awakening and life-forces stirring.

It’s a time to clean out the past to make way for the future and create space for new beginnings in your home, your heart, and your mind - hence the expression ‘Spring Cleaning’ as it was to our ancestors a nature ritual.

The Birthstones of March
Aquamarine & Bloodstone
March Birthstones

If you were born in March then you are blessed not only with the serene, Aquamarine as your birthstone, but also the magickal Bloodstone.

Stunning sea green Aquamarine is renowned for its calming properties - the wearer being able to remain composed and in control, despite any provocation.

The Bloodstone cannot boast the stunning properties and beauty of Aquamarine, however, it’s magickal properties and symbolism are legendary.

Whilst these two stones are totally different in appearance, both generate a similar power - one that both improves and yet also safeguards the health and the well-being of the wearer.

Aquamarine
Its very name creates a vision of a tranquil sea or calm blue waters,

It comes from the Latin ‘Aqua’, water, and ‘Marina’, the sea.

It is said that the calming colours of Aquamarine can cool a hot temper, keep you relaxed and help you stay level headed.

The Romans firmly believed that Aquamarine could not only resolve differences between enemies, but it could attract new friends and allies.

In medieval times, it was thought that the carrying or wearing of Aquamarine would avoid the ever-present possibility of being poisoned!

Also used widely in Tarot, the stone has been thought to be essential in achieving emotional well-being. It is said to help you achieve inner peace. It is also considered by some to be an excellent aligner of the spiritual and the physical. Which in itself explains why it is seen to be of great benefit to meditation.

The second birthstone for March is
Bloodstone
A dark green stone with veins of red.

Bloodstone is also called Heliotrope, a Greek word which means ‘to turn the sun’

It may not possess the beauty of Aquamarine, but many hold this stone in high regard for its symbolism and many magickal properties.

It is sometimes known as the martyr’s stone as legend tells that it was made when drops of Christ’s blood stained the Jasper stones found at the foot of the cross.

However, the Bloodstone has been revered by many cultures for thousands of years.- the belief in its ability to heal dates back to 5000 BC.

It was the main feature for the Babylonians in their divination.

The Egyptians held Bloodstone in great esteem as they believed it had the power to increase their strength and overpower their enemies.

Choose either of the March Birthstones -  they will both align your chakras, and help you banish your negativity. Which in turn, will enhance your creativity and bolster a serene aura of being cleansed, safe and protected.

Ostara - The Spring Equinox

Ostara! - The Spring Equinox

Short dark days, solid ground and the dormancy of mother earth will soon be over!

The Vernal Equinox marks the awakening of our sleeping Mother Nature…..

There are many, many myths and legends surrounding the festival of the ‘rebirth’.

We know that throughout the ages our ancestors have celebrated the rebirth as part of the wheel of life.

March the 20th is the first day of feasting - the 21st is recognised by the Christian church as the first day of spring.

There’s not a lot known about the Germanic Goddess Eostre, except she was the Goddess of flowers and Springtime. She’s mentioned in the 1835 manuscript by Josef Grimm - he refers to her in high German as Ostara...

The Christian faith chose (albeit with a flexible date) to use this time of the year for the ‘resurrection’ which is the crucial part of the Bible, as it gave people meaning to their lives and a reason to believe. They changed the name (of course), to Easter - which can fall between the 22nd of March and the 25th of April. However, the theme of both renewal and in particular, resurrection have throughout time been celebrated at the start of spring.

The Mother Goddess of ancient Rome - Cybele, (whose high priests would honour her by castrating themselves) took a lover called Attis - who happened to be her grandson but let’s not go there…….it was said that because of her rages of jealousy, he castrated himself and then took his own life (his blood was said to be the source of the very first violets).

However, Cybele with a little help from Jupiter was able to resurrect him.

Cybele went on to become hugely popular during the reign of Augustus Caesar - he built a huge temple to her on the Palatine hill and the statue of Cybele has the face of Livia, the wife of Augustus.

Today, pagans still hold a three-day festival at the start of spring to celebrate the rebirth of Attis and the powers of Cybele.

The Spring equinox is very much a time for celebrating fertility and the sowing of seeds - so much so that in some cases nature can go a little crazy! Undoubtedly the best example is the March hare - much revered by our ancestors as a major fertility symbol.

For most of the year the hare is purely a nocturnal creature, but when Ostara heralds the start of the mating season, hares can be seen in many a meadow throughout the day. Male hares don’t react well to being rebuffed by a mate and literally bounce around crazily when turned away - hence the expression ‘Mad as a March Hare’.

All of us here at the Wonky HQ, wish you all a wonderful Ostara, and as always (and forever) Blessed be!

Mother's Day

A time to celebrate the woman that brought you into this world - but not originally…

In 2019 the day to acknowledge and celebrate the role your mom has played in your life is the 31st of March.

According to the Christian calendar, it must be held on the fourth Sunday during Lent and therefore, three weeks before Easter.

Celebrating ‘Mothering Sunday’ dates back to the Middle Ages.

Feasting on Mothering Sunday was a very welcome break from the fasting of Lent and hence was also known as ‘Refreshment Sunday’.

The original celebration wasn’t about the woman who gave life to you.

In fact, it had nothing to do with it.

It was a Sunday when peasants that had left their homes to be servants, in a castle or maybe a manor house, were allowed to return to their ‘Mother Church’. This meant the Church in the village they were born in.

This return to their village, would most likely, lead to a  family reunion.

Over time, the occasion lead to the tradition of collecting wildflowers on the walk back to their village to present to their mother.

By the beginning of the 20th Century, the practice had to a large degree died out.

But meanwhile across the pond……...in 1907, the daughter of the peace activist Ann Jarvis (who famously treated injured from both sides during the Civil War) was campaigning for a national day to recognise the role played by mothers - the idea caught on rapidly and by 1911 was being practised by all the States of America.

It became so popular that the President himself (Woodrow Wilson), got involved and in 1914 declared a National holiday (quote) ‘as a public expression of love and reverence for the mothers of our country’.

This, in turn, presented a huge commercial opportunity, with Hallmark producing the first Mother’s Day cards in the early 1920s. It very soon caught on here, and by the early 1950s, the religious was totally integrated into the commercial.

So today, whilst we see ‘Mothering Sunday’ on our calendars, and church services still refer to it that way, in reality, the two are not connected.

The Birthstone of April
Diamonds
April Birthstones

People born in the month of April, have the most sought after gemstone of all as their own birthstone -  the fabulous Diamond!

The word Diamond comes from an ancient Greek word adámas, (pronounced adiamas) which meant, invincible, unbreakable or unchangeable.

Which is fully understandable, as Diamonds are formed by just one element (carbon) and are the toughest of all gemstones.

Diamonds are formed deep in the earth - where temperatures can exceed 2,700 degrees Fahrenheit and the pressure is about 65,000 times that of the pressure on the Earth’s surface.

Scientists have calculated that a Diamond is 58 times harder than anything in nature (wow!) and therefore it’s only possible to cut a Diamond with another Diamond.

Most people think of Diamonds as a crystal clear gemstone, but they also exist in blue, green, red, pink and yellow.

As with all gemstones, they vary in depth of colour - The density of the colour increases the value of the stone.

The value of Diamonds has been recognised for many centuries - they have been used as a trading currency (along with Gold and Silver) for well over two thousand years.

It was believed by our ancestors that Diamonds were drops of lightning that that fell from the sky, and materialised here on earth.

Today, Diamonds are very much a symbol of eternal love - engagement rings being the most obvious example. However, they also symbolise clarity and positivity.

People born in the month of April tend to be very ambitious and determined to overcome whatever obstacles life confronts them with.

Like their birth gemstone, they tend to be very honest, open and clear (what you see is what you get). However, they can be very opinionated and then they can be very much like a Diamond - ‘unchangeable’.

Irrespective of which month you were born in, even the smallest of Diamonds will enhance your clarity of mind, and help you to harness the true power of your potential.

April Moon Phases
Wonky April Moon Phases 2019
April
Beltane 1st May 2019
Beltane 1st March 2019

Beltane

The festival of Beltane (30 April to 01 May) is a celebration of fire, of creation and rebirth.

Truly a time worthy of great celebrations, feasting and rejoicing!

Beltane heralds the turning of the wheel of life to the point when the Spring makes way for the Summer.

It’s a joyous festival to the power of the earth and human fertility and to celebrate the gift of rebirth and reproduction

To our ancestors, it was the time when the Goddess of Spring meets with the Green Man.

Together they become the May King and Queen, symbolic of the union between the Earth and Sky.

They fall in love, they unite (marry) and consummate the union, which results in her pregnancy.

Whilst Beltane is very much a celebration of passion, sensuality, sexuality and the joy of conception, it’s also much more.

It’s the time of the Wheel of the Year that gives birth to new ideas and conceives new hopes, dreams and aspirations.

As a Fire Festival, the word Beltane has a mixture of origins. Firstly it’s from the ancient Celtic God ‘Bel’ (which meant ‘the bright one’) and then the Gaelic word ‘teine’ (which meant fire), which when combined meant ‘Bright Fire’.

Traditionally, all home fires in a settlement would be put out.

A special fire in the centre of the community would be created - it would be the focal point for Beltane. The people of the settlement would leap over the fire in the hope that it would cleanse them or bring them fertility - couples would do so as a pledge to each other.

At the end of the celebrations, each household would take an ember from the fire to restart the fire in their home.

Today, to celebrate, you can decorate your house, have a bonfire and a feast.

Or you could stay out all night, make love and then watch the sunrise with your partner……..Alternatively, you could do all of these at home by decorating it in the colours of Beltane - White, Red and Green.

White represents Cleansing; Red, Passion and Green Fertility.

However you choose to celebrate Beltane, we wish you a safe and enjoyable celebration, and as always (and forever) Blessed be...
